Elton John Tickets – Elton at Simon Cowell’s Wedding? Possibly. But Probably Not
During the 2008 presidential election, sites such as Factcheck.org and Politifact.org saw their readerships swell as voters struggled to suss out the truth from political spin. Both sites analyze statements made by politicians, pundits and political ads or chain emails for inaccuracies or half-truths.
Apparently, at least one gossip site was paying attention to the fact-checking model. Gossip Cop, a website that scales tabloid rumors and seems dutifully dedicated to fact-checking, is a pretty awesome concept. Case in point: They have recently corrected the record on music icon Elton John, who it was rumored would be performing at Simon Cowell’s upcoming wedding.
Sorry, American Idol fans. The Cop is reporting that a Simon Cowell rep has dismissed the rumors as “a load of rubbish.” More importantly, they’ve established that Cowell hasn’t even picked out a location or time to tie the knot, let alone determine who the entertainment will be.
To be sure, it’s kind of plausible that Cowell could get Elton John to perform at his wedding, and if he liked him enough, he certainly would get Elton John. But the on-the-record facts at the moment seem to indicate he simply hasn’t decided on entertainment plans for the upcoming soiree.
Which makes the report that’s currently up on Pop Eater all the more unbelievable. According to the site, an anonymous source has said (jokingly) that “music is more important to Simon than the venue, the lighting or the flowers. I think it might be even more important than the bride.”
It’s a funny quote, and it’s certainly eye-catching—we figure Cowell is really just a music geek at heart, albeit one with a very sharp tongue—but this one just doesn’t bear out. Cowell is a hardcore music aficionado, and we’re sure that with the celebrities he’s made contact with over the years, he could have a wide assortment of Billboard Top 10 performers at his wedding. After all, he gathered a large group of them together, including Rod Stewart and Susan Boyle, for a Haiti charity relief song earlier this year.
The real trouble here is that none of these sites really know Simon Cowell. Well, the major problem is they don’t know what’s going on, since he’s planning the wedding, not the editorial team of Pop Eater. But if you knew the man well, you could figure out who was going to perform at his wedding based on his favorite bands. And though he looks like the kind of guy who has certainly worn his copy of “Yellow Brick Road,” it’s just hard to believe he would still be that particular kind of Elton John fan.
The other side of this is Elton John. No one seems to have contacted him to find an answer on this question, and the pop pianist is still extremely busy with an ongoing national tour.
